April Favorites

Hello Friends! Today is April 28th and there are only 2 days left in April… 2! Like where does the time go? Time is flying….

From the title of this blog, hopefully you have gathered that I am going to tell you my favorites for the month of April. I opted not to do a March Favorites this past month because honestly, i didn’t really try anything new and exciting lol. It’s easy to get into a routine and do/eat the same things (especially on prep) so there wasn’t really anything that i felt i just HAD to tell you about.

BUT, another month has gone by and i finally have some food and other finds to share with you…

So here we go….

Cycling Classes: So i originally got this idea from my sister, @mbkellyy (click and go follow her on instagram if you don’t already–hiii morgan). Anyway, every Tuesday, for 45 minutes, i have been going to a 5:45 am cycling class, at LA Fitness, called Cycle Zone  … Why do i like it? Every week i have to do 2 MISS sessions of cardio. Choosing to do a cycling class switches things up and helps you push yourself more than if you were just walking aimlessly on the treadmill.  Not to mention the burn you feel in your quads and hammies. My instructors’ playlist selection has been on point which helps pass the time quickly… I mean how can you not get a good workout in when you’re listening to “Work Bi*ch” by Britney Spears? lol. My whoo-ha did hurt a little bit after the first session (sorry if that’s tmi lol) so it took a little getting used to.. Now i don’t have that issue. So give a spin class a try. Maybe you’ll love it, maybe you won’t… but hey, at least you tried something new.

Steamable Cauliflower Crumbles: I am in love with this product. These cauliflower crumbles come in an easy steamable bag that takes the work out of chopping up your own cauliflower. Plus, you just heat it up in the microwave and it’s good to go. It’s a great low carb substitute for rice, add it to veggies, make a cauliflower pizza crust, make cauliflower mashed potatoes, or use it to make those Cauli(flower)Oats that i posted about previously. The possibilities are literally endless and with only 4g of carb and 2g protein per serving they can make a perfect addition to any meal.

Silver Spring Chipotle Mustard: Most dieters love mustard and this is my new favorite. It has a rich and smoky flavor and according to the description it will “treat your taste buds to a south-of-the-border flavor adventure.” There are 0 carbs in this bad boy and it is tasty. I found this at Wegman’s and i am kicking myself that i only bought one… Do your self a favor and go buy like three.. SO GOOD.


Bananas: Yup, i’m late to the party on this one. Often times when we diet, bananas can get kicked to the curb for their lower carbed counter parts –100g of banana is 21 (ish) carbs compared to 8 carbs in 100g of say, strawberries. For a long time, i was guilty of omitting bananas from my diet. But lately, i have been on a banana kick. Banana in my oatmeal, frozen, cut into greek yogurt, served on a rice cake topped with peanut butter… or just eaten by itself. Delicious. Haven’t had one in a while? i recommend giving them another try.


Clear American Sparkling Waters: These aren’t a new beverage by any means but they always seem to return to my life when i am prepping for a show. Carbonated beverages help to make my stomach feel full when feelings of fullness are hard to come by when you’re hardcore dieting. These waters are HUGE and are only 69¢ at Walmart. What flavors do i like? Prepare yourself for a long list because i buy a lot of these and all the flavors are yummy lol: White Grape, Mandarin Orange (tastes like orange soda), Golden Peach, Strawberry Kiwi, Cherry Limeade (tastes kinda like Dr. Pepper), and Pineapple Coconut. Sometimes drinking water gets boring and blah so switch things up and give one of these sparkling waters a try.


Lenny & Larry SINGLE SERVING 2 0z. Cookies: Our prayers have been answered folks! I have had a L&L full sized cookie just chilling in pantry for about 3 months now because i just cannot condone eating 12 grams of fat and 54 grams of carbs for one cookie (especially on prep)… Nor, do i really want to be sad and only eat half a cookie. Well worry no more! Us dieters can now eat THE ENTIRE COOKIE. Single serving cookies are now available with macros ranging from 4-6g of fat, 24-47g of carbs, and 8g of protein. 2 oz cookies are now available in Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Chip, and Birthday Cake. I have tried all three and the verdict? Delicious. They are soy, dairy, and gluten free, as well as vegan. They don’t taste “healthy” and they actually taste like a real yummy cookie. Heated up for 15 seconds… Perfection. As of right now, the only place i have found the single serving cookies are at Vitamin Shoppe- in store or online.

Sinful Colors Nail Polish- Color #300: Easy Going: Now, i am by no means a beauty blog.. hell, i don’t even wear makeup or wash my hair most of the time. But what i do know, is that this color is legit. It is the PERFECT color- somewhere between white and a light pink and it is perfection. This brand of nail polish is only 2 bucks (hello, steal!) and can be found at your local drug store, walmart, or tarjay. Despite the low price, the polish lasts forever and doesn’t chip after 2 days which, as a server, is fantastic.

April’s Dieting Hack: Eating Smaller Foods. Okay, so hear me out… 100 grams is 100 grams regardless of the size of the food. Say i want to eat a cookie, would you rather eat a whole cookie or a half a cookie? (cough cough lenny & larry’s). I would rather eat an ENTIRE cookie as opposed to HALF a cookie even though they technically weigh “the same”. Same goes with bananas. As i mentioned, i am on a banana kick. I never ate them before because no one wants to weigh out 75 grams of banana and wonder what to do with the rest of it that you cannot use. By buying smaller bananas, i am able to “trick” myself into believing i am having more because i can eat the same thing. A WHOLE something is always more than HALF of something… at leasts thats what my brain thinks… just go with it lol.(Hopefully this explanation makes sense haha).

    Great list!Cycling sounds fun….my sister does Soul Cycle! I incorporated Core Power yoga for a while…good to switch things up and keep your prep fun!
